The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, has revealed that official vehicles purchased during Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s administration were allegedly taken away by appointees of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
This disclosure comes as part of Osun State’s asset recovery mission initiated by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke’s administration has faced criticism, especially from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which opposes the asset recovery efforts.
The government had set up a committee and task force to recover assets allegedly looted during the tenure of the former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Responding to the criticism, Igbalaye, who is also a former chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State, during Oyinlola’s administration, clarified that none of his members, including the current Chief of Staff to the state Governor, Kazeem Akinleye, took away any official vehicles.
Igbalaye emphasized that the official cars purchased by local government chairmen during Oyinlola’s regime were given to ACN caretaker local government chairmen under Aregbesola’s administration.
According to The Nation, he urged those who took away government vehicles to return them promptly.
