Journalists’ have been charged to remain focus and dedicated at discharging their duties with great reference to their importance in the society.
These are words of encouragement and task coming separately from personalities speaking in Akure,Ondo state capital during this year edition of the Correspondents’ Day celebration an annual event of the union theme: Electioneering: Roles and Responsibilities of the Media.
The Chairman of the occasion, Prophet ‘Gbenga Akinbiyi, General Overseer of the Promisedland Prophetic Ministry International notes that the sacred nature of journalists work is an herculean task that cannot be compromised.
Prophet Akinbiyi who appreciates and acknowledges the crop of practicing journalists in Ondo state as those that professionalism is their watch words, adding that as electioneering period is at the corner in the state, their experiences and professionalism come in the bearing.
Also in same vein, Dr. Olugbenga Abimbola, Guest Speaker at the occasion and former head of department ,mass communication Adekunle Ajasin University ,Akungba-Akoko in lecture titled : Electioneering:Roles and Responsibilities of the Media enumerates various roles and responsibilities of core and professional journalists with relevancy to discharging such.
Dr. Abimbola who charges journalists to be cautious of their environment while on the fields and display high level of professionalism in this regard,most especially as the state is preparing for the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
He also emphasised that great difference exist between professional journalists and social media journalists that copy and paste just any information without proper verification.
