Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s nominee for president in 2023, is still under expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), according to a group of the party.
According to Vanguard, The faction also said that Buba Galadima and every member of the party’s previous National Working Committee (NWC), which was presided over by Alhaji Abbah Kawu, had been banished.
Dr. Temitope Aluko, the party’s chairman of the board of trustees (BoT), expressed the faction’s stance in a statement on Saturday.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the expulsion of the impacted individuals, cease working with them, and correct its records.
We would want to take this opportunity to remind the INEC, through its chairman, that we have once again asked that their records of the NNPP’s National Executive Committee be updated immediately.
It is instructive to note that, subject to the Electoral Act and the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s general constitution, the NNPP’s constitution is final and obligatory on all members.
“Every other establishment in Nigeria draws its powers of establishment and operations from the said Constitution, since it is the irrefutable ground rule,” Aluko stated.
He went on to say that because INEC is not constitutionally empowered to interfere in a party’s internal affairs, it cannot do so.
